What are the Timelines?
To apply for a student visa, you must first obtain an admission and an I-20 from a SEVIS approved university.
This means, you must apply for admission at a university, and because each university’s timeline and requirements are different, the time to receive your admission if accepted, really depends on the university. However generally, the timeline to get admission is as followed:
Admission Timelines:
- Bachelor’s degree 2-4 months
- Master’s Degree 2-4 Months
- PHD 4-6 months
It’s important to note that most universities have a deadline for application submission and completing the required documents. To qualify, you must comply with those deadlines.
Student Visa Appointment Timeline
Depending on the consulate that you are applying for an interview, the Student visa appointment can range from 1 to 4 months. This is simply based on the availability of the visa appointment so you can be scheduled to attend an interview. In countries that do not have a U.S. Consulate, students must travel to the designated consulate which is normally the neighboring countries.
Once you successfully attend an interview, if approved, there are additional waiting times for your visa to be issued.
Students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to avoid timeline complications and potential delays.
